When Helena College staff read the National Endowment for the Humanities Notice of Funding Opportunity for Humanities Initiatives at Community Colleges, it seemed that the stars were aligned for the college to pursue this grant.
When MAPS Media Institute film instructor Dan Molloy worked with Thompson Falls High School students to create their film “Dragonfly” in a one-week intensive workshop, he knew the students were creating something uniquely powerful. The student filmmakers communicated a StephenKing-like internal drama which resonated on different levels—a teenager’s perspective on the global pandemic; the isolation caused by bullying; commentary on teen suicide.

Every year, the Ravalli Electric Co-op sponsors one lucky Ravalli County high school student to attend the National Rural Electric’s Youth Tour to Washington D.C. During the trip, over one thousand students from every state visit monuments, memorials, and museums while meeting their state’s elected representatives and other student leaders.
Montana’s after school programs are gems. This short film highlights some of these outstanding programs, and explains how after school programs enhance a student’s whole education, as well as nourishes entire communities.
